Spook your guests with prison-themed Halloween decorations! Torture, death, and jail-inspired ideas to create a creepy haunted atmosphere.
One of my favorite themes that we’ve done on our Halloween Trail is the prison theme. It was a lot of fun to make all of the individual props and relatively affordable.

Prison Decorations for Halloween Fun
Strobe lights are always a nice addition, and these ones are rechargeable.
This would make an excellent backdrop for the area.
Don’t forget that you can also use stuff you have laying around your house! Old barbed wire works just as well as the faux kind, but wear gloves to protect your arms. Faux blood splattered near your axe is great if your setup is well supervised and kids don’t get near the props.
We used an old prisoners costume from our stash of Halloween costumes one year and threw it on a skeleton. We could have just as easily stuffed the costume with old scrap fabric, added a mask, and created a human like ‘person’ to sit in the jail.
Fencing: We used hog panels that we had laying around and propped them up to create the “jail.” Those panels are probably a $30 if you’re able to haul them home. We had them laying around so it was absolutely free to use and super fast to set up.

We have a skeleton dog that howls so we threw together a ‘cage’ for this one and set it up with lights around it. I think this would work well for a Circus theme too.

Here are some more photos of the various props.
