Ideas for repurposing DVD cases and jackets, including instructions on how to use them for easy home decor.
Ever wonder what to do with all of those DVD jackets? Me too. I have no idea why they put them on the DVD cases when the case itself has the same image and a clear cover. It seems like a waste of money and effort, but alas… sales isn’t always eco friendly.
I’ve been brain storming ideas for these and I decided to use them for home decor. I had a couple of ideas, including making a collage of them on a large canvas. Our basement really needed more art. We’ve been working hard to decorate in the room, including adding Framed Maps and Upcycled Book Jackets, but we still had lots of empty wall space.
I opted to go the easiest and cheapest route and placed them along the soffit (hope I have the right word!) in our basement playroom. It’s such an awkward space that normally might not get decorated so I think it really worked well. I’d debated using them as a border along the middle of the wall, but figured the kids would probably take them off. My 2 year old is obsessed with taking apart our DVD cases which is the reason I wanted to use these to begin with. They were very excited to see their favorite movies up on the wall, and I was very excited that they were appreciating it from far, far below my hard work.

Supplies
- Double sided tape
- DVD jackets
- Scissor (optional)
Tutorial
This is pretty simple. I used double sided tape to hang these on my wall. I alternated between hanging the entire case and just the front (cut off). I recycled the backs of the jackets that I did not use. I was hoping that alternating would add some depth to the display.
Here’s my first DVD jacket… this is one that I kept intact as you can see.
Here’s a closer view…

Oh my goodness, this is an excellent idea! I get rid of all of the plastic cases and use a DVD binder for our DVDs but have a bin full of the sleeves that I had no idea what to do with. I hadn't thought of using them for decor. :)

great idea but since my kids destroy any DVD that comes into this home, I'm all about digital media now! lol!

oh my gosh - how cute! I love this idea. Maybe I need to consider something like this. It'd be about time I decorated our walls some more.
