This is an easy DIY cop costume to put together for children or adults. It has lots of fun accessories, but the costume itself is made with just “normal” clothing for kids who might object to a true costume.

My son, G, is pretty obsessed with being a police officer this Halloween. Last year he was “eh” about costumes so I made him a Paw Patrol vest so he could be Ryder. It worked out well for him and he was willing to wear it. This year I decided that I should take the same approach- “make” him something that he wouldn’t decide last minute that he wouldn’t wear. This kids police costume was super easy.
Supplies for a DIY Cop Costume
- Dark blue pants
- Black belt
- Light blue button down shirt
- Police badge
- Police kit
- Optional: Men’s Jailbird Costume (for daddy)
I spent about $43.40 for everything besides daddy’s costume and the pants, but this could be a lot cheaper if you had the shirt and belt already too. This is a costume that would be easy to DIY if you had a school uniform to work with. I think black shirt and pants would work… or navy blue shirt and pants. Also, it’s nice that the majority of the costume can be used for other purposes after Halloween is done- the shirt, pants, and belt all will be useful for formal events.

Of course, my son may have other ideas. It’s not even Halloween yet and he wants to wear it all the time. He likes putting everyone “under arrest!”
