See the stunning transformation in this living room renovation! Full reveal with design tips, before & after, and DIY inspiration for your space.
We’ve been renovating a lot of the main floor of our home recently and the living room was one of the big projects. We hired a company to do a bulk of the project as we were a bit nervous about raising the floor ourselves. We removed the half wall. They raised the sunken floor, added a sliding glass door where two windows were previously, and transitioned our wood burning fireplace to an electric fireplace. I LOVE how this came out.
This space will eventually be a dining room long term if we do an addition on the home, but in the meantime, it’s our living room. We kept that all in mind, however, when decorating. The cabinets will function as a built-in dining room hutch long-term.
The doors let in SO much more light than the windows did and the room feels a lot larger without the step-down. I LOVE the changes.

Step 4: Replaced two windows with a sliding glass door that will open to a deck.

Step 5: We found a flooring company that was able to match our current hardwood floors without needing the refinish the whole house- this was HUGE and so helpful. They came and did the room.

Step 6: I added linen curtains for the door and windows.

Step 7: We added the IKEA cabinets and countertop to function as a built-in hutch once it’s converted to a dining room.

Step 8: And finally we had a deck put on for the exterior which will allow us two exit doors during parties or events at our home.

I still haven’t finished the mantle, but I’m not ready to commit to a color yet. Color suggestions welcome!
