Turn old garden bunnies into creepy zombie rabbits for Halloween with paint, glue, and creativity! An easy upcycled DIY that’s spooky and fun.

The last home owner left a few rabbit decorations in the garden that we really didn’t care for that much. They were faded and broken. We often found that wasps would build a nest in there over the summer too. I decided to fix these up for Halloween and I love how they came out!

Zombie Rabbits DIY Halloween Decoration

Project Supplies

  • Old lawn decorations (bunnies in this case)
  • Acrylic paint
  • Paint pens for details
  • Glue & sheep wool or other hair

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1: First, try to wipe down your decoration and make sure it’s nice and clean. You also want to make sure it’s dry.

Step 2: Decide on what kind of look you want to go for. 

With the first rabbit I wanted to do a zombie rabbit eating a brain. The second rabbit is more along the lines of toxic waste themed.

Step 3: Add your base layer of paint and let it dry.

Step 4: Afterwards you can paint other areas or add details. 

For the brain, I painted the inside of the lettuce pink and added red lines using a paint marker. And the outside is pale like skin. Then I glued some sheep wool to the outside to make it look like hair on a skull.

The red eyes were the final touch!
