My husband brought me back some PJ pants with a cell phone pocket from his work trip and I was in love. I hate when pants don’t have pockets. I decided to add something similar to some of my pants that are pocket-less. Actually these particular pants had pockets, but the pockets were ripped and needed to be removed.
The nice thing about a pocket designed specifically for cell phones is that if it’s deep and narrow enough, it’s unlikely the phone will fall out. As a woman, this is a huge issue because our pockets are so small and we look like idiots dropping our phones all the time. But we are at a significant disadvantage when our pockets can’t even hold a credit card properly due to their size.
Tutorial
Step 1: Sew up the original pockets and cut out the lining. Skip if you don’t have original pockets.
Step 3: Fold the piece of fabric in half with the right sides together.
Step 4: Sew around two sides, leaving the top open.
Step 5: Turn the fabric right sides out through the top opening.
Step 6: Fold the top under and top stitched the top closed.
Step 7: Pin the pocket in place to the front of your pants. I wanted mine directly over the current pocket so it would hide it.
Step 8: Sew a “U” shape around the pocket, leaving the top open.
And you’re done. Very easy and now I have an attractive and perfect size pocket for my iPhone. I think I could’ve made it shallower by a couple inches and been fine, but I like how deep this is as my phone can’t slip out.
The only thing to note is that I only put one pocket on the right side… I’m a lefty. Total bad call. Should’ve gone with both sides or just the left side. I’ll probably add another pocket later.

Oh, my goodness, who couldn't use another pocket? My yoga pants (no yoga involved, lol) drive me nuts b/c there is no pocket- why didn't I think of this? Thanks for sharing it with us at Treasure Box Tuesday! Pinned! :)
