Every year we do a Halloween Trail and spiders are one of the themes that have been repeated year after year. They’re easy, fun and super creepy.

Before we moved to the farm, I used to set up our front yard and porch with spider decorations

Hanging the spider webs and spiders on the stone walls of the front porch was a bit of a struggle until I discovered that I could use hot glue without damaging anything. The bead of hot glue would just pop off at the end of the season when I removed the decorations. This helped hold things on in the wind and it meant I could put spiders up and down the wall and make them look like they were stuck there on their own.

Obviously make sure you test this in a inconspicuous spot if you’d like to try it at your house.

For our first year the trail, we decided to turn the area underneath a platform in our woods into a spider lair.

We hung black lights, spiders, and had a large jumping spider setup to scare people.

I think we ended up putting up tarps along the sides of this to create a more enclosed tunnel, but I don’t think I have photos of that. It should be in the YouTube tour from that year.

Last year we upgraded our spider webs. I really hate using the kind that bugs get caught into and that is really hard to collect afterwards and reuse.

These webs are made with beef netting. They’re really easy to tie around branches or trees, and you could stake them to the ground as well.

Once you hang them, you can cut large holes in them to create the spider web effect. The trick is generally more holes will make it look more authentic.

It’s a little bit of work, but I found them really easy to collect and roll up. I rolled them around old empty spools from 3D printing to help keep them nice and organized.

We will be able to use the beef netting year after year. It also is relatively inexpensive If you buy big roll. The big bonus point is that this is a little more safer animals and bugs as the other stuff can can snag critters just as well as a real spider web.

This year we had a few trees that fell and we decided to cut a gap and create a little spider cavern using this beef netting again.

And here’s some different products that help make the Halloween display even better!
