DIY Reptile Enclosure Base with Wheels

Sharing is caring!

Make reptile care easier! Build a DIY enclosure base with wheels for safe, sturdy mobility—perfect for heavy tanks & easy cleaning.

We built our two ball pythons custom reptile enclosures and I decided to also build the stands as well. These stands are on casters so they roll around which makes it easier for us to shift the cages if needed and clean behind them.

The blue one and the green one are for two different cages and they’re built a little bit differently. Both work. I probably overbuilt the blue one a bit, but I like it.

DIY Reptile Enclosure Base with Wheels

Project Supplies

  • 3/4″ plywood: I wouldn’t try 1/2″ here because there’s a lot of weight on the base
  • Casters
  • C Hooks
  • Optional: 2x4s and trim

Instructions

Green Stand: For the green enclosure, I used 3/4-in plywood and built a box with the two largest pieces being the bottom and the top. There’s also a divider, two sides and a back piece.

I put the casters on before I started painting which allowed me to move things around a little if needed.

In retrospect, I probably would put trim along the front of this one. I was rushing and kind of tired of building these by the time I got to this.

Blue Enclosure Stand: The blue one was the first one I built and I kind of winged it. It’s quite durable, but cosmetically isn’t as nice. I framed it initially with 2x4s and then added a top and then a shelf for the bottom.

Then I added the casters and painted it.

I also added small hook to hang the feeding tongs off from.

Here’s a picture of this one when it was finished.
