DIY Privacy Screen

Create a DIY privacy screen easily with this step-by-step guide. Perfect for your patio or yard to add style and seclusion without breaking the bank.

When I needed a portable restroom for my business that I run on my property, I didn’t want it to be a glaring eyesore so I decided to make a privacy screen for it. This was a pretty quick and easy project that didn’t cost a lot of money.

Here’s how I made it!

This is pretty tall in order to full block the sight of the portable restroom which made it really tricky to block from eyesight as we get a lot of wind in our area. If I did this again, I’d plan ahead to attach it directly to the shed and attach in multiple places.

Project Supplies

  • PVC trellis
  • 2x4s
  • Screws

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1: I started by making a basic frame with 2x4s. This wasn’t particularly complicated.

I needed diagonal supports in the quarters to help keep it all square.

I also added feet to help stabilize it against falling over.

Step 2: These PVC trellises are really affordable so they were a great option to screw in to the frame. My one complaint is that the white screws that go with them tend to strip really easily so you want to pre-drill the holes before using them.

Step 3: After that all I did was mount it to the side of the shed so that it couldn’t fall over in heavy winds. I ended up attaching it in a couple of spots, but I made that decision after this photo.

The one downside to the structure is that it is fairly top heavy and can fall over. I mounted it to the side of the shed next to it. When we decided to move that, I had to take down this project.

I could have fixed it up to make it work for the spot it’s in now, but the different guys who come to clean it weekly could never find it… So I figured I needed to leave it somewhere obvious.
