I received this 30 gallon aquarium and stand free off Freecycle which was pretty exciting to me. I’ve been looking for a bigger fish tank and free was the exact right price. We have spent wayyyyy too much money recently for me to justify the expense of a whole new tank. I was excited that the stand was wood… that means even though it was a bit beat up, I could make it look nicer.
I decided to try out the colored stain I bought recently. It’s outdoor stain so I figured it would work well with any water leaks/drips that might occur (let’s hope there’s no actual leaks).
Here’s some pictures of the process of painting it… I did one coat, then went over the main areas with a second coat when I saw it needed it. It didn’t have a lot of time to dry… I was impatient and my kids only sleep so long. It’s got sealant in it as well so this is all that I did. I like the color, but it doesn’t look like stain to me… it looks like paint. Not a huge problem, but if I actually wanted wood grain to show through it might be.
