After starting to dig and having it be such a slow process, I decided I needed to speed up on planning the garden layout and maybe try to cut back a little. I found this website to create a layout for our garden. It’s nice because it actually sets up the plants for you, then you can go and add extras of some, delete others (I really didn’t need more than one or two onion plants, but I wanted more tomato plants).
Here’s a link to my PDF file for my garden. It’s two 16′ x 3′ gardens with a path in between for easier weeding.
There were a few other things that I didn’t add to that garden:
1. I had a bunch of lavender that I’m not planting in my vegetable garden, but that I’m going to use up near our deck to help with mosquitos. I hope it works!
2. I’m also going to use pots for the parsley and spearmint. I may also transplant the two basil plants into pots as well, even though they’re good companion plants for my tomatoes. It would save some digging time/space.
3. I really would like to grow potatoes, but I plan to do it with straw in a bin. It looks easier and seems to save space. Why not?
