I was SHOCKED at how much of a difference it made. It was super tasty and wasn’t bright orange when I made it (see photo on left) like it is if you use the packets. To make this recipe even better, I used grass fed beef and there was almost no grease. It is just gorgeous.
I love discovering tricks like this, especially when they save me money. If I make the seasoning, then the only thing I need to buy that would normally be in those kits is the taco shells. We love soft tacos and those shells are super cheap at the store. Add salsa, shredded cheese, tomatoes, and other key ingredients for tacos and you have an easy dinner.
If you’re interested in trying the taco pie recipe, the recipe can be found here. I halve the sour cream and use light/fat free sour cream, and I think I use less cheese and less chips. We love to eat tortilla chips and salsa so I usually save the remaining crumbs from the bags for this recipe.
Here’s my ingredients lined up, and my final container of taco seasoning. This is 4x the recipe amounts that pop up.
