I’ve been enjoying chili quite a bit this winter and we have had tons of snow the past few days so it
seemed like perfect weather to whip some up. Our neighbors, also snowed in, all came over and we each made something to add to the meal. This was six adults, a 4 yr old, two 2 yr olds, and a 1 yr old. We had SUCH an awesome time. It’s fun to be snowed in with good people and it’s nice to have friends living so close by. The kids were happy and played so nicely. And of course, the meal was awesome.
I made chili, but the recipe I used, Debdoozies Blue Ribbon Chili, wasn’t made in the crockpot. I decided to try it and pray anyways. I also didn’t buy chili powder and made my own instead, using this recipe.
I also did the beans a little different due to a mistake I made when picking up supplies for this recipe and used Chili Beans rather than getting the specific ones the chili recipe recommended. It worked fine, but I found that I needed more than she recommended to make the chili thick like I prefer it. We did 4 cans total. I added 1/2 cup more of the tomato sauce. I also used the whole peeled tomatoes I had sitting in the pantry and scrunched them up with my fingers (after draining). I only used one can, but I think it would’ve been nice to use 2-3 cans instead. I threw all of this in the crockpot for 3.5 hours. I’ve heard browning the meat beforehand is better, but I felt like this tasted great using the crockpot to cook the meat at the same time- just make sure that you break up the meat so it cooks well. This made enough chili for 6 adults (kids didn’t eat much of it) with a decent amount of leftovers too. Besides the chili powder and the wrong beans, all the other ingredients from the recipe were used- I just added additional ingredients.
